My Property Search Story

Chris and I started our search some 3 years ago to find our 'Place in the Sun'. Our search took us along the whole length of the Costas from Gibraltar in the South to Valencia in the North. In 2001 we celebrated our 30th wedding anniversary with a trip to Nerja in the Costa Del Sol, an area we both had grown to love. For the first time we both felt that now was the right time to perhaps find our own place in the Sun. We gave up a day of our visit to have a look around and view a few properties that were 'For Sale'. What we saw were very nice, some within our spending budget and the ones we really liked outside it. That evening we both had a good talk about what we had seen that day and assess the whole situation. What we had learned from our days experience was yes we liked the Costa del Sol especially Mijas & Fuengarola but what we liked was the fact that we both had enjoyed holidays there. However, perhaps none of them the place we would want to establish family living. We had learned the first rule of purchase. (Where you holiday is not always the place you would want to live) On our return to the Uk we both talked about what we had seen and what we really wanted.It was decided that the property we were looking for had to be large enough to sustain family living, Front line, With 3 bedrooms. We then set about how to achieve this. I set a 10 year plan where we would purchase the property and after 10 years when we would both be 60. We would assess the whole thing and decide If Spain was really what we wanted for retirement. During the 10 year plan we would not give up our home here in Nottingham. Chris and I have now completed on our 3 bedroom 2 bathroom house in El Alamillo, Puerto de Mazarron Murcia. We followed the 'Property Track' that most do with a 20 month build time. Very happy with the Result.

Why the Costa Calida?
It offers the best value property in Spain. The weather is warmer, homes are cheaper and you can swim in the sea year-round. Close to Murcia’s San Javier airport (RyanAir, British Airways and BMI Baby fly there) an hour’s drive south of Alicante on the new coastal motorway. Prices are rising fast, but you can still buy a new two-bedroom Home for less than £60,000, close to several new golf courses. Murcia was recently declared the cleanest area in Spain by the World Health Organization, with the least industrial pollution.


How hot?
The average annual temperature is 20C, with less than 40 days of rain a year and a sea temperature that rarely falls below 18C.


Who else goes?
Golfers looking to play in the sun year-round and Russian investors buying to let. Also, Spanish holidaymakers and Britons seeking low-cost second homes.
